Meant

Hearing words
meant for someone else
does nothing for your soul.

Feeling love
meant for someone else
does nothing for your heart.

We are meant to feel,
but circumstance plays a lead role.

Some times we are only meant
to live the life we are given,
not the ones we wish to have.

Writers

The thing about writers is,
they can make anything from war
to a slice of bread sound interesting.

I can’t make a slice of bread sound interesting,
not even if I tried.
Am I not a writer?

Is a poet not a writer?
Have I been lied to all this time?

Who am I?

The Start of an existential crisis
out of nowhere
no warning
just the idea of bread.

The thing about a writers is,
they never think they can write.
Are they a good writer or not?
They’ll never know.

If a few people read my writing
and, without thought, like it,
does that make me good?

Are other writers brought to pause
when thinking about a slice of bread?

Why bread?

The thing about writers is,
their minds are full of thoughts
that make no sense to them
and they try to take that nonsense
and make it make sense to others.

I think that’s a bit masochistic.
Why put yourself through so much
to achieve so little?

Are other writers this troubled
by bread?
Are other writers this troubled?

The thing about writers is,
They never really call others out
on the crap they write,
because they know that they too
write crap.

The thing about writers is,
they are all in on some kind of joke
the joke that says,
“We don’t know what we’re writing about
but don’t tell the literary world!
Their whole existence is based on
finding meaning out of our meaninglessness.”

The thing about writers is,
we’re not writers,
we’re artists.

The thing about writers is,
we know the feeling behind the words.

The thing about writers is,
we write.
